Pandemic and volunteering
An important service is being performed by young volunteers in this period of pandemic state. They generously offer their free time to go shopping, help cook, clean the house and accompany the elderly to the doctor or for other needs. Every day they are confronted with their role in the social sphere.
Equally present are young people in the education sector. They are welcomed with great confidence by large and poor families to accompany their children in carrying out their schoolwork via online.
The volunteering of many generous young people allows:
- to older people to have a point of reference, and not to feel abandoned, but part of a community;
- families to rely on the collaboration of young people who, in addition to school support, organize play activities for children forced to live in a few square meters.
The pandemic, despite its negativity and drama, represents an “occasion” from which young people draw a series of experiences such as the knowledge of the loneliness of the elderly, the dark sides of poverty in some family contexts, difficulties in social relationships, lack of educational facilities, etc.
